Make some simple adjustments to your routine and you'll see your teeth as well as your breath improve. Consider some common practices to minimize tooth issues and cut down on visits to the dentist.

Stop drinking so much soda and coffee

Getting up in the morning can be a constant struggle. That's why so many people consume caffeine in the form of sodas and coffee. However, these are usually consumed on the go and you won't brush your teeth again until later in the day. Over time, coffee and soda can damage your teeth, usually from all the sugar and carbonation. When these particles are left on your teeth, your teeth are prone to more cavities and yellowing. To avoid these complications, cut down on or stop drinking these drinks and make an appointment with your dentist.

Floss regularly

Some people floss on a regular basis to help promote a healthy mouth. However, if you visit a dentist for a cleaning, he or she will be able to tell if you don't floss and why you should start. Food particles, especially meat, can get trapped between teeth. No matter how hard you brush, it can sometimes be next to impossible to get food particles out without floss. Once you get into a regular habit of flossing, you'll have fresher, cleaner breath and a healthier mouth.

Avoid too much candy

Everyone loves a sweet treat every now and then, but if you eat too much of them, you may land yourself in the dentist office with a cavity emergency. This is especially true if you eat sweets without brushing your teeth afterward. Also, some candy is especially sticky, making it even easier for sugar to slip in between all the corners of your mouth. If not cleaned, a cavity can occur.

Replace your toothbrush

Some people brush with the same toothbrush for entirely too long between replacements. This can be bad news for your teeth and you may find yourself in the dentist office much sooner than is necessary. That's because when your toothbrush is very worn out, it becomes much less effective. This can put you at risk for gum issues and other problems because you're not cleaning your mouth properly. Also, if you have been sick and didn't change your toothbrush, fungus and bacteria could be stuck in the bristles. If you've just gotten over a cold or the flu, it's best to change your toothbrush and start fresh and healthy.
