Loss of Control

Many people who have panic attacks describe feeling out of control of their body. It's as if they logically know there is no reason to feel this terror or this height of intense fear, but there is no way to control or stop it from happening.

Weakness

Panic attacks often include a dizzy, spinning head and sense of weakness throughout the body. You may even feel as if you could pass out at any moment.

Speeding Heart

The sensation of the heart racing faster than usual can be one of the scariest symptoms. This is often accompanied by chills or profuse sweating.

Breathing

Often, a panic attack will bring on troubles breathing as well. Feeling as if your chest is closing in and you cannot draw a breath will often result in chest pains that can be minor or more severe.

Any mix of these symptoms could be present in order for it to be considered a panic attack. The common denominator is the sense of great fear or panic that has nothing to do with whatever is going on around you.

Often, the initial symptoms of a panic attack coming on will produce even more panic in the person, which just makes it even worse. This is especially true for people who are experiencing the attacks for the first time ever. They are uncertain what is happening or why they have this tremendous sense of fear and that leads to even more heightened panic.

A panic attack can hit at any moment regardless of what you are doing, where you are, or who you are with. There is no predicting when they will occur, since they seem totally unrelated to the rest of your life or what is happening around you.
