The type 1 kind is one in which the pancreatic cells that produce insulin in the body have been destroyed. This leads to lack of adequate level of insulin in the body to process blood sugar. In type 2 diabetes, the cells of the body are unable to respond well to the hormone produced in the body for processing blood glucose (blood sugar). In men, the symptoms of diabetes vary based on the type they are suffering from. Some major symptoms of diabetes type 1 in men are:

  • A rise in the volume and frequency of urination because of an urge to have water is one of the primary symptoms.
  • Feeling hungry consistently over a period of time.
  • Weight loss in spite of continuous eating.
  • Inexplicable tiredness and fatigue which is accompanied by vomiting, nausea and headache that seems to persist.
  • Feeling confused in whatever you do and even what you say.
  • In some severe cases, type 1 diabetes can cause bed wetting.
  • Your breath may have a foul fruity smell.
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence) can affect men suffering from type 1 diabetes.

Some of the symptoms of diabetes type 2 are identical to that of type 1. These include weight loss, fatigue, inexplicable intense thirst and resultant frequent urination and continuing pangs of hunger. Other than these, some symptoms of type 2 diabetes are specific to the condition. These are:

  • Dark spots on the skin can be witnessed in patients who suffer from type 2 diabetes. Velvety patches appear in the form of folds and you might also witness creases around the neck or armpit. Insulin resistance leads to these symptoms.
  • Your groin and genitals in particular would have itchiness and there would be itchiness in general all over the body too.
  • Yeast infections may also affect the type 2 diabetics.
  • The hands and feet may suffer from numbness and a tingling sensation.
  • Sudden increase in weight can be experienced.
  • Impotency can result too.
  • Problems in sighting may crop up too.
