Hair loss during adolescence can be caused due to fixation on "looking good". I am talking about various hair styles that pull the hair for a long time like braids. Of course, it is possible that genetics play an important role in hair fall as well.

1. High Fever, Severe Infection or flu – This is a temporary cause as sickness usually causes hair to enter the resting phase. After a certain period of being sick, a lot of hair usually falls out. This is usually corrected in course of time.

2. Dihydrotestosterone – This is a by-product of testosterone which is common in men and also causes male pattern baldness also called androgenic alopecia since it is related to androgen hormones. This is one of the most common causes of hair loss.

3. Stress - One of the most common side-effects of stress is hair loss. If you learn to manage your stress, you will find that hair loss will be controlled to a large extent. Stress weakens the absorption of nutrients in the body that are essential for hair growth. So if you stress too much you be ready to have a thinner mane.

4. Inadequate diet -  this is another key factor that results in hair loss. Healthy eating does not only mean a diet of fruits and salads totally excluding chocolates, pies and cakes. Rather, you need to pay attention that you have a healthy intake of proteins and iron. Crash diets can really affect hair growth. In other words, poor nutrition means hair loss.

5. Certain medications -  drugs used for treating gout, high blood pressureArticle Submission, and arthritis and heart problems may have side effects that lead to hair loss. Sometimes birth control pills also lead to hair loss. Ask your doctor about their side-effects and counter balance accordingly.
