Hemorrhoid is a very common ailment that is curable with over the counter medicines and home and herbal remedies. However,When should you call your doctor about your hemorrhoid condition? Articles if these remedies fail to treat the problem, your condition might take a serious turn and require you to call a doctor. Calling for a doctor before you can spot certain symptoms would amount to wasting your precious money.

Symptoms that indicate its time to call a doctor

Hemorrhoid is generally accompanied by uneasiness, pain and blood in stools. The symptoms differ from the type of hemorrhoid you have. If the veins outside the anus have become inflamed and you can feel a lump around rectum, you have an external hemorrhoid. It causes pain, itching, burning and even bleeding.

If this lump around rectum cannot be felt, but you still bleed during bowel movement, you might have internal hemorrhoid.

All these symptoms are bearable and can be cured but it is time to call a doctor if the symptoms aggravate to:

External Hemorrhoid

  • Moderate pain in the rectal area lasting for more than a week even after home treatments.

  • The severity of the swelling and pain worsens.

Internal Hemorrhoid

  • Tissue bulging out from the anus and remaining in the same position for three to seven days, despite taking home treatment.

  • Lump inside the anus becoming larger or more painful.

  • Rectal bleeding becoming heavy or changing color from bright red to dark red.

  • Color of the stool changing from brown to maroon or even black.

What does the aggravated symptom signify?

If your pain turns unbearable, your

external hemorrhoid might have worsened to a serious condition termed as thromboses. Then, the inflamed vein clots and the pressure on the clot increases further and results in unbearable pain. It would require a doctor to cut off the blood clot to alleviate the pressure.

If you feel a lump sticking out from anus, it is a clear indication of your internal hemorrhoid has prolapsed. This is the stage when internal hemorrhoid becomes painful. Further swelling of this vein can result in the vein getting entrapped within the anus, leading to restricted or no blood supply to the entrapped part of the vein. As a result, the vein may die and become infected. This infection may spread throughout the body, making you seriously ill.

So, take serious note of this condition, prepare a healthy diet that comprises green vegetables and lots of fiber. Most importantly, consult an experienced and highly knowledgeable doctor right away.
