It is amazing the ways tables are used in homes today.  They are used to dine on,Plans for Tables- Building Your Own Tables from Picnics to Dinner Parties Articles whether inside or out, and hold practical and decorative items.  They are found in children's rooms set up for tea parties, and behind sofas adorned with lamps and magazines.  They have glass tops, wood tops, tile tops, or marble tops.  They can have built in storage or simply be a table top with legs.  Whatever the use, a table that you build yourself can be an excellent conversation piece in addition to being useful.  The secret is to start with a good set of plans for tables.

Plans for tables range from very simple to very, very complicated.  A simple table for a child's room may only include a few steps and a couple of diagrams.  A set of plans for a simple dining room table may be much the same, on a larger scale of course.  However, an end table may be very simple, or it may include shelves, drawers, or a magazine rack underneath.  These additions may or may not add to the complexity of the project, but they will most definitely add to the length and detail required of the plans.

This may seem obvious, but due to the huge variety of free plans for tables online today, it needs to be noted.  Anyone can put plans on the internet for you to follow.  It is up to you to review them to determine that they are complete, and that they contain sufficient detail and diagrams to leave nothing to question.  It can be helpful to walk through them in your mind first to make sure you understand them completely before you get started on the project.  For example, can you follow step one to step two, and so on, and know exactly what you are supposed to do and what the table is supposed to look like at that point in the plans?  If so, they are probably sufficient to get you through the project.

If you have any skill and desire to build something on your own, a table is a good place to start.  Look around and see what kind of plans for tables you can find.  Often there is no reason to purchase a ready-made table when one can be made for only the price of materials.  It only takes some skill, a few tools, and a great set of table plans.
