10 steps of Shingle Roof Replacement

Shingle roofs begin to wear down after a few years. This is due to the constant exposure to natural forces like the sun, the rain and the snow as well as humidity. 1. The total area of the roof has to be prepared so that there is no debris to fall off during work. It is said that the use of the machine keeps the ground below clean. However even without the machine debris can be carried to the outside without any mess with proper careful handling. 2. After the debris matter is taken care of, the roof has to be cleaned and swept. This consists of cleaning the gutters and removing any loose materials from the roof.
3. In the next step the plywood should be checked thoroughly. It should be tightly fastened, and without any wet damage or rot. If a piece of plywood is rotten then it has to be replaced with a new piece of plywood. Also if some sections are loose then it has to be properly nailed.
4. It is important to make sure that all the vents on the roof are in the proper shape, including kitchen vents, pipes, chimneys etc.
5. A vital step is installation of drip edge covering the roof’s whole perimeter. It needs to be installed beyond the roof’s edge to a certain length.
6. As a safety measure shields of protection against water and ice should be put in certain places on and around the roof.
7. Finally the shingles will be installed on to the roof deck. The shingles should be installed by following the proper method or else there will be problem in the future.
8. After the shingles are in place, metal flashing will be installed at the necessary places, especially at the joint of roofing and wall, and around chimneys.
9. A ridge vent has to be installed on the roof.
10. After all the work is complete, the dust and debris should be properly cleared off the roof, and the adjacent gutters and grounds should be also cleaned.
