Air conditioning is oft viewed as a luxury in many parts of the world, but in the United States it has become a common (and needed) amenity in buildings and vehicles.

Air Conditioning (AC) is the process by which heat is removed from inside a building or vehicle in order to create a more comfortable atmosphere. It not only involves cooling but also the removal of humidity. AC comes in several different forms,Air Conditioning is a Necessity amid Several Different Demographic Groups Articles the most popular being as part of an HVAC unit. While you may not think it is a necessity, air conditioning is important for a few demographic groups.

AC is vital for those who live in a particularly warm climate. Excess heat can wreak havoc on your health and humidity can cause numerous problems for computers and other equipment in businesses. AC is also important for shopping centers, hospitals, doctor's offices, sporting arenas and other venues that often have a lot of people inside their buildings at one time.

Air conditioning is also vital for the elderly and the very young. Older folks and babies have trouble regulating their body temperatures, and thus need to be extremely careful when temperatures rise. Extreme heat can cause numerous health problems for anyone, but especially for those who fall into these age groups.

In the southern United States, many schools have AC in the classrooms. However, with a falling economy and tight budgets, many schools have to make tough choices about AC and whether or not it is a vital part of the learning environment. Certainly children can learn in warmth and humidity, but they pay better attention for longer spans of time if they are not distracted by uncomfortable temperatures.

Until the past decade, AC was not a standard amenity on most vehicles. Drivers were forced to lower their windows in order to get some relief from the hot, sticky weather. For those in the business world this caused many "bad hair" days and more than a few soaked shirts. Now, air conditioning is a standard feature on every vehicle on the market, and drivers are thrilled with this change to the amenity package.

Air conditioning is not a difficult concept, nor is it really all that difficult to obtain. If your home or business is not equipped with a central or HVAC system, you can purchase a window unit for the various rooms in your home or office. While the window units are not as efficient as a central system, they are very effective and can offer sufficient cooling.

AC is not as popular in other parts of the world as it is in the United States. Many people from other cultures view it as a luxury and not as a necessity, and luxuries are reserved for special occasions or the wealthy. Thankfully, that is not the case in this country as most people view cool air as a must-have for the home or the workplace.
