Vinegar is one of the safe alternatives to chemical cleaners. It is safe to use on woods and other natural surfaces due to its weak acidity. A lot of pressure cleaning detergents is available at home improvement stores but laundry detergent or dishwasher soap could make a good substitute. Mix 1/3 cup of detergent with water. Stir and pour to the canister. Clean and rinse as usual. Then make sure to rinse the washer’s wand and nozzle well to keep detergent from accumulating, thus preventing equipment damage.

Bleach brightens surfaces. It is powerful in removing a big amount of algae, mildews and molds. It also sanitizes making it an effective bacteria and micro-organism remover. Mix a cup with water and clean as usual. You may also add a small amount to a detergent mix.

Trisodium Phosphate removes outdoor grime, grease and fungus. The chemical, also known as TSP, is available at home improvement stores. Add a ¼ cup of TSP to a gallon of water. Stir and pour in the canister. Wash and rinse as usual.

Wear safety goggles, rubber gloves and protective mask while high pressure cleaning with chemicals. Do not point the sprayer directly at people, pets and plants especially if the water contains chemicals. Cover the plants with plastic when cleaning with chemicals. Lastly, consult the manual regarding the use of cleaning agents. Some pressure washers are very particular that having the wrong detergent might break it.
