Insects are out in abundance during the spring and summer months.  Many of them die,An Ounce of Prevention Keeps Pests At Bay Articles move away, or go into a dormant state as winter approaches.  However there will still be a few left around to give homeowners problems.

Therefore it is important for all homeowners to take preventative measures throughout the year.  An ounce of prevention will certainly help keep most of them at bay.  Here are a few tips to that end.

It is probably most important for you to take preventative measures during the spring.  During this time the weather will be warm and wet which provides ideal breeding conditions for many insects.  If you work to bring them under control now, you will not have as large of a pest problem as the year progresses season by season.

Make sure there is no standing water around your home.  Any leaking pipes should be fixed and your gutter system should be inspected and cleaned routinely.  It is also a good idea to leave as little debris in your yard as possible.  Ants, termites, and cockroaches will find debris to be very hospitable.

As the temperatures drop pests will start searching for warmer accommodations.  Your home will be an excellent choice.  They can cause problems in a variety of places and will be difficult to notice if you are not actively searching for them.  The areas that give homeowners the most problems include attics, basements, and crawl spaces.

Make sure you check your home for all possible openings the pests can use to enter.  Make sure you look around openings such as doors, windows, and walls.  The areas in which pipes enter your home should also be checked.  If you find any holes or cracks in these areas then you will need to repair them as soon as possible.

Pests will always be in search of a constant food source.  Your kitchen will be a prime location for them to find food; especially inside your pantry.  Check cereal boxes and boxes of pasta to see if they show signs of damage signifying a pest problem.

If you do spot signs of pests being in your home you should call a pest control company immediately.  It is best for you to setup a schedule for routine maintenance though.  As you have already learned pests can give homeowners problems throughout the year.  Do not wait around for them to enter your home then try to get rid of them.  Try to keep them from entering in the first place.
