Plumbing remodels may seem impossible to homeowners who are on tight budgets but where there's a will,Budget Plumbing Remodels - Do's & Don'ts Articles there's a way. There are lots of ways to save cash and accomplish the remodeling project in a competent manner. But working with this part of a home or office building must be done properly in order for it to function well for years to come. Remember, this job needs to result in an attractive look and be functional, as well. Here are some do's and don'ts for kitchens and bathroom remodeling jobs:

Do:

- Hire a licensed plumber: There are some construction projects that can be done by a savvy DIYer or a handyman, but bathrooms and kitchens are not among them. If pipes are installed incorrectly or systems aren't done professionally, there will be years of headaches ahead. Don't skimp on hiring a professional.

- Use a space you already have: If you want to add a bathroom or enlarge the kitchen, take a look at your existing space and figure out where it could work. Any time that roofing, foundation and flooring has to be added, the price tag increases substantially. Try to keep it under your existing roof and on your existing slab. How about turning an extra walk-in closet into a guest bathroom? How about turning the tiny kitchen and dining nook into one large eat-in kitchen? Bathrooms can also be installed in basements or bumped into oversize garages.

- Buy used fixtures: Resale shops like Habitat for Humanity carry used bathtubs, showers, sinks, dishwashers and more. They also have gently used faucets and pipes. Big money can be saved if previously used fixtures are purchased. There are some high quality porcelain sinks, tubs and more at these stores.

- Paint or refinish existing cabinetry: The cosmetic portions of remodeling jobs can be achieved with cans of paint, stain and paintbrushes. Lots of cash can be saved by painting existing cupboards instead of purchasing new ones.

Don't:

- Don't forget to get references for your plumber: Hire a pro who is licensed and has a good reputation. Get word-of-mouth references, call the board of contractors, read online reviews before making a selection.

- Don't accept verbal quotes: Estimates for remodels must be written down and signed. Verbal agreements won't hold water if there are any problems. Make sure to get everything in writing.

- Don't go over budget: If you plan to spend X amount of dollars, make sure you stay in your price range. Falling in love with designer sinks and fancy garden tubs will be regrettable when the credit card bills come rolling in. Don't even look at pricey stuff and you won't be tempted.

Putting in a bathroom or kitchen remodel can be achieved even for homeowners who are on tight budgets. If a person hires a reputable and licensed plumber, builds within existing space, buys used plumbing fixtures, paints existing cabinetry, and stays within his or her set dollar amount, these additional spaces can be added to the home.
