If you are looking for an environment friendly option for floor installation then go in for the cork floors. These are made from the bark of the cork oak tree. They are resistant to different types of molds and fungus,Cork Floor Installation: Do it yourself Articles and hence they can protect your family. This is a comfortable process that does drain your energy and yet looks fantastic. Cork floor installation can be of two types. They are:

  1. Glue-down method

This process requires flooring adhesive. The cork planks are glued to the subfloor with this adhesive. The most important point to be kept in mind during this process is that the subfloors must be kept absolutely dirt free and dry. After each tile is glued adequate pressure must be applied on the surface so that after the completion of the entire process the floor looks level and smooth. It usually takes a day to dry. After installation is complete the floor must be cleaned with polyurethane cleaner and then it must be sealed. In this case the material cost is quite low but installation cost is high. This process should be carried out with absolute care. If a cork floor tile gets damaged then it can become very difficult to repair it.

  1. Floating floor method

This method is more popular since it is easier to follow it. In this case, the cork planks easily interlock with each other. They can be installed over subfloors made of vinyl, wood or ceramic. If there are and cracks and damages on the subfloor then they must be repaired before installation. The subfloor must even and dry. If there are any irregularities in the subfloor it will show on the surface of the cork flooring.

Cork flooring is made water resistant by using a sealing material. It is also fire resistant due to the presence of a waxy substance called Suberin, which inhibits fire. Hence, unlike other floors, cork floors do not easily catch fire. These kinds of floors are very comfortable because they give you a feeling of walking in the air. This is so because there are millions of air cells in between this material. It is best to install it during the driest period, especially in places that have humid climates. Maintenance of cork floors is also quite simple.
