When it comes to storage it is hard to know where to begin. Look around your place and begin anywhere that is calling out for your attention. Consider the type of furniture you have. Can it do double duty or not? In other words can it be used for more than one purpose such as a table that has drawers or a chest that has an abundance of cabinets? Look for furniture that can do more than one thing.

When looking for a new bench,Finding More Storage Space in Your Home Articles stool or ottoman do not just think size, color and whether it will blend in with the room’s décor. Also think in terms of storage. Buy one that opens up and provides you with ample room to put things away in a tidy fashion. This is a double duty piece of furniture at its finest! The same can be said for a trunk. Many trunks offer plenty of room to store things but they also have a cushioned top that can be used as a seat.

For many people their closets are what need reorganizing and restructuring. You do not want to open a closet door and have everything on the top shelf fall on top of you! The important thing is to show your closets who is in control- which means you!

Depending on how large your closet is and how many shelves it houses it is wise to place the belongings that you do not use as often on the highest shelves. That way they will be out of sight and out of mind until you need then again. For example, store your seasonal items such as Christmas decorations on higher shelves, as well as your clothing that is out-of-season. The same goes for mementos, old toys and luggage. Just make sure that whatever you put on the higher shelves is not too heavy for the weight of the shelf.

Whenever possible use dividers and shelf organizers in your closet. You can buy any number of space savers for a closet at department stores that help to keep your stuff neat and organized. This is particularly a good idea for your shoes, boots and slippers or your hats and scarves. Get creative with your closets, regardless of how many you have!

Similar to the above point it also helps to hang items whenever possible. Hang hooks in your closets for your belts, ties, robes or purses. The more things you can hang the better off you will be. Speaking of hanging hooks, double-hanging rods are an excellent idea for your shirts and trousers or your blouses and skirts. In this way the outfits that you pair together can hang above and below as opposed to side by side. This will take up less room in your bedroom closet and is an excellent means of storage.

Storage boxes that fix under your bed are an excellent idea as long as your bed is not too low to the floor. There are lots of different types of these boxes. They come in small, medium or large sizes but they are all flat in design in order to accommodate storing items under your bed. They also come in a selection of different materials.
