Fixing A Slow Tub Drain

Some simple home remedies you can try to fix a clogged or slow bathtub drain.

Do you have a bathtub that drains very slowly? It can be frustrating. Nobody likes to stand in several inches of water while showering, plus it makes it very difficult to keep your bathtub clean. There are some simple home fixes that can be tried before having to call in a plumber.

Cleaning out he blockage is the first step in unclogging a bathtub drain. The most common causes of clogs are often a build up of hair and soap scum. If the problem is not too severe, pulling out the stopper and getting the hair out that has twisted around the stopper is a quick fix.

A straightened wire hanger, used carefully, can often help remove hair that is farther down the drain or tightly wound. Often times this remedy will fix the problem unless the clog has moved far into the drain pipes.

Another option, if the clog is even further down the drain is to use a toilet plunger. Place the plunger directly over the drain and use as you would on the toilet. This will sometimes bring the clog up, allowing you to remove it.

A safe home remedy that does not require toxic chemical drain cleaners is to use baking soda and white wine vinegar. A half cup of baking soda is poured into the drainFree Articles, then a half cup of white vinegar. Then give it a little time to work. This can often be effective.

If your clog has resisted all of these home remedies call a plumber.
