Get Out Of The Grid

Have you been dreaming building a solar power house, but have no idea where to begin? Many times, when you hear about solar power, it just sounds to good to be true, or just confusing to the average person. But, it does sound like a nice dream, living in a home that does not require a reliance on using the utility companies in order to have electricity, hot water or heating and cooling. But, that is what most people tend to think of it as -- just a dream that cannot happen for them.

Many people think solar power is just a pipe dream. They think the upfront costs are too expensive to get started. Or, they think they just don't have what it takes to understand how such a system can work.

But there are over hundreds of thousands of people living in a home that is what experts call, "living off the grid". This means that they are not reliant on utility companies for warmth, light, air conditioning or hot water. This is where it may sound like a pipe dream. Some people cannot even conceive of how such a concept could even be possible. But, solar power has been around for years, and over time many people in America have made the switch to making their home a solar power home.

There are those people out there that have this idea that when you have a house that uses the sun's power, that you will somehow do without certain comforts. This could not be further from the truth. In fact, it is quite the opposite for many reasons.

First, when it comes to solar products today, they are of the highest technology in this fast and popular industry. Solar panels, and other systems requiring the sun for energy are highly capable of transferring the sunlight into a valuable human resource. In fact, with the solar panels of today, they are so effective and efficient at transferring the sun's light into usable energy that they truly outshine the old traditional methods of putting human comforts into a home.

A second benefit that many people do not consider when they think about powering their home with the sun is that you will always have energy. Think about it. As long as there is a sun, you will have light or heat in your home. This is not the case for those that "live on the grid". Everyone in America has heard of rolling blackouts, or electrical outages due to over consumption or extreme weather days. So, if you are living on the grid, you are susceptible to those times where no electricity is even available. Even on a cloudy day you will still have power. This is not so for those who live on the grid. Why, many people live in fear of the winters of freezing rain weighing down tree branches and breaking power lines. Some people have had to wait up to two weeks for their power to be restored.
