Get Your Water Heater Serviced Several Times a Year

If you find yourself in a situation where you have just walked in from work expecting to take a nice hot shower, only to find that your hot water is mysteriously out, you may want to find out what the problem is. First, you run to the basement to make sure the pipes haven't leaked and then you run to call your water company because you don't really have a clue as to what to do. Before you start to panic, it is time for you to go and inspect your water heater. There are a few things that can tell you whether or not your water heater is in need of service or needs to be replaced. If you can identify some of these symptoms, you can save yourself a ton of headaches and heartaches. Turn on the light or take a flashlight and use it to look around your appliance. Look at the floor. You are looking to see if there is dirt, debris and lint that may be interfering with the operation of your water heater. If you see dirt and debris, clean it up and remove it from the area that your boiler is in. Next, you need to check the water heater and the immediate are near the appliance for signs of moisture. If you see condensation on your appliance, the pressure may be off inside of the tank. Do not attempt to fix anything yourself. That is a task for the repair company. If you see water on the floor, that is an indicator that either there is a high level of condensation occurring on your tank or there is a leak. Either way, both problems will require you to contact a service company. Check to see if the gas is on and whether or not a pilot is lit on the tank. If you have lit the tank before and you notice that the pilot light is out, you could simply relight it. Before you relight it, make sure that you turn the gas down and follow the manufacturer's instructions for that process. If you have not lit a pilot light before, now is not the task for you to learn without proper instruction. If this is something that you want to learn for the future, make sure when you have the water heater repair company come and check out your tank, let them know that you are interested in learning how to light the pilot. They can show you the proper and safe way to do it. If by chance upon inspection, it is found that your tank is a tad too old and needs to be replaced, you can be at ease knowing that everything is going to be taken care of in a timely manner. You don't have to start going through withdrawal from not having any hot water in your home.
