If you don't treasure heating and air conditioning,Heating and Air Conditioning: Finding The Right Installation Company Articles chances are you've never had to live without it. It is one of the most overlooked luxuries of modern day life, making uninhabitable areas fine places to live, blistering summer days a perfect opportunity to watch sports on TV, and chillingly bitter winter days...well, less terrible. If you have problems with your home system or are looking to install a new system, you'll need the help of a good contractor. Unfortunately, your favorite phone directory probably doesn't separate good companies and bad companies into two different listings. So here are some tips on discerning which is which.

Insurance and Liability
It's essential that any heating and air conditioner contractor you invite into your home is properly insured and has the right amount of liability according to your state regulations. There are plenty of companies who try to get away without having this coverage, as it is expensive and difficult to afford for the fledgling small businessman. Nonetheless, if a contractor gets hurt on your property or causes damage to your home, you could be the one paying for the bills if the company doesn't have insurance in place.

Warranty
Never pay for heating and air conditioning repair or installation that doesn't come with a written warranty. If a contractor isn't confident enough in his parts and labor to put his money behind it, you don't want it in your home. It shouldn't be an "extra" that you can buy if you want it. It should simply come as part of the deal. Sloppy workmanship and sub-standard parts can lead to some real problems in the near future. Make sure you don't wind up paying for the same work twice. A warranty means the company not only believes in their work, but is willing to put the customer's satisfaction first.

Referrals
Any heating and air conditioning contractor that has been in business for any length of time should have a stack of references they can hand over to new customers. People are generally quite thrilled to rave about a company that did good work for them. Ask for these references and call a few, if you want. Granted, if the contractor is giving you the phone number, you already know you aren't going to hear anything negative, but it can still be comforting to talk to someone who has used and been pleased with the service they received. If the company can't come up with anyone willing to go on record for them, it should tell you something.
