Home renovation to make way for a nursery is an occasion that celebrates the arrival of a new addition to the family. For families that have had babies recently, a small change in the old nursery may suffice but some people like to change the entire room to suit the gender of the coming child. Other families who are expecting their first child, they might want actually convert a room to accommodate the infant or make an entire wing just for the baby. Color

One of the major changes that can be made to an old room to make it new is to change its color. Many home renovation experts recommend changing to a color that suits the gender of the coming child. Boys usually have blue or green walls while girls might enjoy pink. Some parents do not want to focus too much on gender or may not like to know this before their child is born. Yellow is a potentially neutral color that suits either a male of a female infant. Other neutral colors are cream and a black and white combination. The black and white combination actually stimulates the child's vision which is a great idea for a theme all over the new nursery. Wallpaper is an alternative to paint and these come in various designs and prints that are suitable for infants. Instead of a color, some parents might opt for a theme in the new room. Examples include lady bugs, trains, safari animals, garden, specific cartoon characters and many others.

Color can also be found on the floor. Wood floors may not need to be carpeted or painted over so area rugs and carpets may suffice. Rugs are a great help when parents or caretakers need to kneel on the floor. These also provide a splash of color to the room. When the child is bigger, these can be a small play area on which he or she can crawl on or play on.

Furniture and Décor

The home renovation can also focus on the kind of décor and furniture used in the room. A comfortable chair, a crib, a changing station and drawers to keep clothes and other supplies are very helpful. These can be painted in one color or in complementing ones that work well together. It is advisable to have the furniture themselves in complementing styles since they might clash even if they come in the similar hues. Chairs should be comfortable with back support since mothers or fathers are likely to feed the infant while seated on them. The upholstery should also be washable or stain proof to prevent long lasting stains. Although leather works well against stains, the colors that these are available in may not blend well with the concept of a nursery unless it is white or cream.
