Designers are well know for creating mood boards to get a feel for how a room will eventually look,How to use a Mood Board Articles they are great for visualising what your finished room will look like and you can add texture and even the type of wood you want for your furniture, or paint effect you want on your bedroom furniture.  The following steps will help you in creating the project into an inspirational room.

Base Colour

This is the main colour of the room; the colour could be the wallpaper you are choosing, the flooring or the paint.  This is where your design is going to stem from, so you will need a large sample of the colour.  If you are basing it on carpet, then ensure you get a carpet sample and use this on your board.  If it is the colour of the wallpaper then a big enough sample needs to be obtained.  You also need to consider the furniture especially if it is bold such as white gloss wardrobes or a shiny white desk, these will also impact on the design.  A good supplier of bedroom furniture or home office furniture will send you a sample of the wood through to you, so you can make a more informed choice, plus it will go well on your mood board.

Accent Colour

The accent colour can be a few shades darker of lighter than your base colour or it could be a contrasting colour, this is the play area of the mood board, where you get to see what works and what does not, also it will show you what your preferences are.  The accent colour could be one wall in a different shade or used on the soft furnishings.  One of the fun parts of this is getting lots of samples together and swatches. Try using your imagination and seek inspiration from outside with leaf colour or take pictures of colours you like on buildings or graffiti. Finding that ideal colour should be a fun experience.

Accessories

One thing that can ruin the look of a room is the accessories, if you've chosen them wrong your design could look quite messy, it's about ensuring the room has a overall them, so if you've gone for a Parisian theme, it would not be a good idea to have a Spanish dancer in the room or if your bedroom has modern bedroom furniture and you are looking towards creating a loft style living space, then the addition of an antique gold framed mirror will sit out of place.

Your mood board should reflect how you want the room to look and feel, it is where mistakes can happen and it won't be an expensive investment. This can be a much easier way to begin a new design project in your home.
