Heat pumps are designed to draw in heat from one location and transfer it to another location at a lesser temperature. The name is actually deceptive since heat pumps can work in conjunction with a cooling system to provide air conditioning as well as heat. The heat pump is one component of your heating,Its Not a Fairy Tale to Expect it to be Just Right Articles venting, air conditioning unit or HVAC for short. When you have the proper HVAC unit installed your home should have year round climate control and low energy bills. When you have an old outdated system or one that is not a good fit for your space, it can lead to high energy bills and problems with your homes climate ultimate overall climate control.

So how can you tell if your heat pump is the right size or not for your home? For most homeowners the first indicator is the energy bill being higher than they should be. Especially if the HVAC system is not providing very much controlled climate control in your home. If your home is humid in the summer because your air conditioning unit makes the air more wet than cool you probably have a HVAC that is not working for your home.

On the other end of the season if you have a home that is dry in the winter because your HVAC system doesn’t put out enough moisture you probably have a HVAC that is incorrectly sized. Other obvious indicator of a system that is off is experiencing an indoor climate that is too hot in the winter and too cold in the summer. Your home should be comfortable, not a repeat of the Goldilocks’ nursery rhyme of too hot, too cold and just right.

Your first step to gain control of your energy bills and get a more comfortable environment in your home is to have a HVAC technician come out to look at your current system and do an assessment on what size HVAC system your home actually should have.

As manufactures attempt to be more ecologically friendly, the products they are turning out are reflecting this with higher energy ratings and more economical investments. Heat pumps today are a mile ahead of what was available even as little as five years ago so it would be surprising if you couldn’t find energy efficient system sized for your home space.

The technician will need to do more than just look at your current pump though. In order to get an accurate measurement of your home’s needs, the tech will need to do some simple weatherization test to see how much air is escaping your home through windows, doors and poorly insulated walls, floors and ceilings. From there the tech can recommend what type of weatherization will work in conjunction with a new properly sized HVAC system so your home can operate at maximum efficiency.Don’t put off getting your home correctly size for the proper size HVAC unit, you only have money to loose on high energy bills if you wait.
