A lot of families take advantage of summer breaks to have some fun under the sun and away from their homes. However,Keep Your Home Safe During Your Summer Vacation Articles blame it on the weather, burglars also find summer to be the perfect time to break into and rob houses with weak security systems. As a follow-up to another article on home security that we released earlier, these are even more safety tips that will make sure that you enjoy your holiday while keeping your home free of robbers.
1. Get a safe and store your valuables in it. If you can afford a safe installed in your wall, get one; burglars will probably not spend a long time breaking it open, and there is little chance that they will try to take the safe with them by pulling it out of the wall.
2. Let your neighbor or nearby friends park in your outdoor space. Not only will you be helping them out; this will also make outsiders think that there is someone in the house while you’re away.
3. This is another great suggestion if you want to outsmart potential thieves: get time switches. Set your lights and appliances on timers so that they will turn on and off at various times of the day, scaring off home invaders.
4. Stop dissing your that neighbor of yours who is always sticking her nose in everyone’s business; tell them that you are going on vacation, so that you always have a pair of eyes (other than the thief’s) to look after your place.
5. If you have a guy who regularly stops by to do various maintenance jobs like mowing the lawn, remember to cancel his services on the days of your vacation. Make a note of telling your new neighbor-friend about this; if the service guy still comes to your house while you’re away, she’ll know that there’s something going on.
6. If you have the money for high technology safety systems, have motion sensors and security cameras installed in and out of your house. Would you prefer a more affordable alternative? Affix deadbolts on all the doors.
7. When you write your name and address on a tag right outside your luggage, you are advertising your home to people who are not exactly looking to buy a home. Try not to be an open target by writing your name and address on a sheet of paper and tucking it in the bag, or keeping a hand on your luggage as you travel.
During your holiday, if you spend more time worrying about your home and less time having fun, it’s not going to be a great vacation. These home security tips will ensure that you are only focused on having a blast, and not on how safe your house is.
