There are certain areas of your home which will receive a lot of traffic.  These areas include entries,Matching the Right Carpet to the Use Articles the living room, hallways, and staircases.  It is important to match the right carpet to the use.

You should already know there are many different types of carpeting.  One of the characteristics that differentiate various types is the way the pile is cut.  Low-cut pile carpeting will not show traffic as readily.  You certainly would not want to get plush carpeting for high-traffic areas since it would get matted down very quickly and also show footprints.

When choosing carpeting, you will also have many different material choices.  Most people who buy a carpet for a high-traffic area should invest in nylon.  It is a very durable material and will also stand up well to frequent cleanings so you can keep it looking like new.

Polyester is a popular option too.  One of the main advantages of this material is that it can resist stains very well.  Newer versions of this material also will not succumb to extreme heat, so you can safely steam clean as much is you need to.

Since you are buying for a high-traffic area, you will need to pay attention to the performance rating of carpet you are interested in buying.  The higher the rating, the better it will stand up to traffic over time.

Buying a carpet for high-traffic area is a bit different than buying carpet to accent your room's decor.  When buying for decor, you will need to make sure the carpet blends in well with its surroundings.  If traffic is a concern though, then the carpet's color will be especially important.

Darker colors will hide stains and dirt better than their lighter counterparts.  If you do get a carpet with a lighter color for your high-traffic area, then make sure it makes use of newer technology.  This will help it resist soil and stains much better.

Of course you will also need to base your carpet buying decision on your budget.  It is often a good idea to get cheaper carpets for high-traffic areas.  You might think that more extensive carpeting will last longer, but that is not always the case.

If you get a cheaper carpet, then you will not be as hesitant to replace it in a few years when it becomes worn.  Make sure you keep all of these things in mind when buying carpet for a high-traffic area in your home.
