Melted Clock: Poster, Tees and More With an Edge

The name of the piece is not melted clock, but rather, the Persistence of Memory. If you are not familiar with your surrealist art, relax. It’s just that you don’t know it by that name. It is the one piece of art that can be called universally known by all ages and cultures - and one of Salvador Dali’s best known pieces. The key to remembering is to think of all of the clocks, melting into the scenery. Ah, now you know it!

Those images have graced every type of item that you can think of, from tee shirts of every color to posters in dorm rooms in colleges around the world. There are recreations of the original painting that can be framed and hung on walls as well as prints that use the melted clock idea as inspiration. If you look around long enough, you might find virtually everything melting in much the same way.

Interestingly enough, there were people who were not satisfied with just having the art work. They took the clocks and brought them to surrealist life, melting on shelves and tables. You can even have an alarm clock that looks like the melted clock from the painting. It might give you a bit of a smile to wake up to that strangely shaped clock every morning. Then again, you might only hit that snooze button several times- that is if you can find it!

There is nothing to say that these classics should only be seen in museums. You might not want to have famous art work on your tee shirt or on your tote bag but you can have a print on your wall- at a fraction of the cost o the real deal. Face it, very few of us are ever going to be able to afford a real Dali masterpiece but we can have Dali’s art work in our homes anyway. Some of the best posters can be amazingly well done and once they are in the frame, you may be shocked by how art like they actually can become. Finish it off with an art highlighting light fixture and people will be amazed and might gossip behind your back that you are secretly wealthy.

These can be a great way to introduce your kids, especially your teens to art. They might like the look of this piece and be more willing to look at other things, especially additional Dali works.  Think about it: the melted clock can be the key you use to turn your kids into art fans.
