You should know pests can enter through tiny cracks.  However they commonly enter through doors and windows which are not sealed properly.  Therefore, it is important for you to inspect all windows and doors leading to the exterior of your home.  It is particularly important for you to have weather stripping on the bottom of the doors.  If there is any gap between the floor and the door pests can easily make their entrance.

It is also a good idea to check various immovable objects in your home since pests are known to setup shop beneath them.  Pay particular attention to furniture such as couches and large appliances like washing machines and refrigerators. 

Homeowners are also advised to inspect areas like the bathroom and kitchen.  Virtually every life form on earth requires water to survive.  These are two of the best rooms in your home for pests to find their water source.  Make sure you inspect and treat the areas around the pipes.

You will also need to make your way down to the basement.  You need to inspect the floors and any wood which is exposed in the basement.  Moisture commonly accumulates down there and can provide pests with a water source nearby.

One of the most important places to check is your food pantry and spice cabinet.  Flour beetles and meal moths commonly make their way to these areas.  They can also make their way into your home inside of grain products you buy from the store.  It is best for you to seal all food containers tightly in order to keep them out.  Items such as cereal, sugar, cookies, and bread are common problems.

You should not focus just on the interior of your home either.  Keep pests from entering in the first place by sealing all cracks you find on the exterior.  Areas where pipes enter your home especially need to be sealed properly.  If you have a deck or patio, then check these areas too.  These places provide excellent shelter.
