When you want to tidy up your home, residential window cleaning will be part of the process. Here are some tips.
Residential window cleaning is one of the tasks that homeowners must complete if they’re to have a tidy home. Most individuals do housecleaning every day to some degree. There is picking up to do,
dishwashing, bed making and general clutter control. Then there are certain tasks that must be done weekly or a couple times each month to keep one’s dwelling looking nice such as scrubbing the bathroom, mopping the floors and vacuuming. But some tasks only need to be done periodically, as needed or a couple of times a year, such as washing windows, cleaning baseboards and more. Here are some things to think about.
- Cleaning caddy: No matter whether you’re doing the weekly chores or bi-annual tasks, having a well stocked cleaning caddy will make the jobs go more smoothly and successfully. It saves time and is more effective to have everything you need in one place. Typically, this container should have spray bottles filled with either commercially prepared cleansers or those that you’ve concocted, rags, sponges, squeegees, paper towels, abrasive cleanser such as Comet, furniture polisher, floor cleaner, a feather duster and a general surface cleanser such as 409.
-Windows: If you’re going to be making your own solution, a classic recipe is 1 pt. rubbing alcohol, 1 gal. H20, half cup sudsy ammonia and 1 tsp. of dishwashing liquid. Mix this all together in either the spray bottle or a bucket. It’s always best to do this on overcast days as hot, sunny weather will make them streak from the rapid drying that will occur. The wipe off can be done with rags or newspapers.
-Paper towels will shed so aren’t that efficient. Many individuals recommend using professionals for a once-a-year round of window pane cleaning and DIY in between. This is especially true if there are hard to reach panes of glass.
-Baseboards: The baseboards of a house don’t always get remembered yet they get dusty, grimy and can make an entire room look dirty. Every few months, it will be well worth the trouble to bend over and wipe them off with a damp sponge.
-Sliding glass doors: These should be washed in a similar manner to the windows. They will have to be tended to more often, though, since there will likely be handprints on them from people entering and exiting on a regular basis. The glass should be washed and the door tracks should be vacuumed and scrubbed out as well. Using an old toothbrush to get each nook and cranny can be helpful.- Walls: Even our walls get grimy and should be wiped down periodically. When choosing paint, it’s wise to get gallons of washable paint so that it will withstand the tidying up. Eggshell, satin or semi-glass may be preferable to flat finishes for staying tidy.
When our houses are spic-and-span, we feel more organized, there are less germy surfaces to get sick from and everyone in the house will feel more settled. Daily, weekly and bi-annual tasks should be tended to like clockwork. Remembering the baseboards, sliding door tracks, walls and residential window cleaning will be well worth your time and energy.
