For your picnic table construction project, free plans may be easy to find on the internet or at your local hardware store. But beware that most of them are incomplete and are only offering a limited amount of designs.

For my picnic table construction project,Your Picnic Table Construction Project - Free Plans May Not Be Complete Articles free plans gave me a good jump start. I wanted to start building my very first picnic table with the help of free plans that I had found on the internet. I am pretty handy around the house to fix things up but I work as a paramedic so building things is not my cup of tea.

I looked at the plans real quick and I went to buy the needed wood at the hardware store. Unfortunately, the weather got nasty so I had to postponed my project to the following week-end.

My friend Tim, his wife and kids came by our house for a barbecue on the next Saturday. I told Tim I wanted to get my picnic table done during the afternoon and he offer to help me out with that. Tim is a carpenter so I was really please to have him with me.

First he asked to see my plans, witch I showed him. He took a look at them and asked me where I got them and how much they cost me. When I told him I got them for free online, he was not surprised. At least you didn't pay for them, he said to me with a big laugh. I didn't understand.

First he showed how the plans were incomplete about giving the measurements. They did not specified the size of the screws and what kind of wood was best to use nor the exact quantity to get. Besides the design was pretty simple too, and I realised I could do a much better table than that.

Tim asked me to use my computer. He went online to some website he had access to and printed out a bunch of designs of at least six different picnic tables. I was amazed. I learned that free plans were a waist of time.

We carefully looked at the plans together. My wife and I picked a beautiful design for our picnic table.
I was able to dress a list of all the material needed to build it and to figure the cost. So I had to go back to the hardware store to return the wood I had bought the week before, because had bought the wrong one, and got everything I needed.

When I came back Tim started to measure all the pieces following the plans and tracing lines while I was cutting them. We put everything together during the afternoon without sweats and by the time dinner was ready, so was the picnic table. We were actually able to use it to enjoy our BBQ ribs outdoors.
