Every marriage has problems—your marriage therapist will tell you this on your first visit. Of course, knowing how to work through those problems is how you keep your relationship healthy. Here is a complete checklist for healthy relationships to help you get through those rough patches.

1. Do you love and take care of yourself as well as trying to do the same for your partner?

2. Are you happy whether or not your partner is with you?

3. Do you have meaningful friendships and social relationships outside of your relationship with your spouse?

4. Do you hold on to your own ideas and opinions even when your spouse's ideas and opinions are different?

5. Do you feel comfortable communicating your needs to your spouse or partner?

6. Does your spouse respect your thoughts, feelings and ideas?

7. Can you and your spouse both admit when you are wrong?

8. Do you feel secure in your relationship (are you free of jealousy or suspicion)?

9. Can you and your spouse work together to figure out compromises instead of constantly forcing one of you to completely give in to the other on issues?

10. Are you both able to be honest with each other as well as with yourselves?

11. Do you and your spouse value each other's needs as much as you value your own?

12. Do you feel comfortable saying no to sex?

13. Are you able to argue without it leading to threats or abusive behaviors?

14. Do you both honor the agreements you make with each other?

15. Neither you nor your spouse should feel like you are making sacrifices to stay together or that you are settling for each other.

While all of these questions are important, one of the most important aspects to any healthy relationship is passion. Are you still as in love with your husband or wife as you were when you first fell in love?
