QNET chief technology officer,QNET teams up with Symantec to provide strong authentication for its customers Articles Malcolm Chiu, said the company is now using Symantec's VeriSign Two-Factor Authentication Service which ensures customer data is protected to the highest standards while offering a convenient method to log in to their accounts.

"QNET's online security depends largely on our ability to protect customers' personal data from identity theft. Our security solutions need to be above reproach and to be seen as such by customers to maintain their confidence.

"To facilitate smooth business transactions, we also need to ensure that the access process is not cumbersome. The VeriSign solution fits our requirements perfectly and we are very pleased with it," he said.

Chiu said QNET conducted a pilot run in June last year across selected markets before going live in December 2010. The global roll-out continues this year.

The VeriSign solution requires users to enter an automatically-generated number on a physical security token that is provided to them. The constantly-changing number offers better security than the traditional, single password approach to securing access.

According to Sinamar Reyes, QNET program manager, the company evaluated a number of security providers and examined current data security technology and best practices for online authentication of commerce sites, particularly e-banking systems, before deciding on VeriSign.

"We were particularly attracted by the simplicity of the VeriSign solution, both at the customer and management end, and the fact that the solution could be implemented quickly," he said.

Michael Chue, managing director, Symantec Hong Kong, said QNET joins a growing family of businesses and consumers who are taking advantage of the latest technology around online security to prevent fraud.

"Two-factor authentication helps them achieve this objective as the technology combines information users are familiar with, such as their username, with something physical they can hold, like a token.

"The backbone of the one-time password generation solution sits in the cloud and can be delivered anywhere. This is ideal for customers who travel a lot as they can access their password on their smart phone or tablet PC for simple yet secure access to their online account no matter where they are," he added.
