Is product photography as easy as people make out?

I have read hundreds of articles about product photography – is it easy to do yourself or do you ideally need to get a professional to do it?

You have to ask yourself a number of questions before you can really make this decision. I’ve got a list of questions that you may want to consider if you are going to do it yourself or outsource it to a professional.

Do you have a steady hand?

If you have great – otherwise you will need a tripod. As a general rule, tripods are not that expensive but well worth the initial outlay.

Do you have a good enough camera?

Most people own a digital camera and if they are thumbnails for a website you will be able to get away with having one as little as 2 mega Pixels however the more you have the better quality you will get. It is also worth noting that a customer is often sitting at their computer with mouse it one hand and their wallet in the other - make sure you answer all the questions or reservations to buy with pictures.

Can you take more than one per product?

Good clear photographs from a few different angles sell products. Whether customers are on your home page or on your product pages, showing clear, multi angle pictures of your products can convert visitors into customers which can never be a bad thing.

Do you know your target niche?

When taking these photos, make sure you know your niche – if your marketing a younger product, get young people to model it, if your marketing a more senior product, use the appropriate age models and then people will get an idea of how it would fit in to their life.

In order to ensure your Professional Product Pictures for your North East Business are sharp, make sure you know how to focus your camera and get close up to the image.

What has become clear to me is that the difference between photos between photos for ecommerce sites that are taken by professionals and amateurs is the sharpnessArticle Submission, lighting and positioning.

One final tip I would recommend is: take lots of pictures. Digital cameras take unlimited pictures as long as you have enough memory so just keep snapping away.
