3 Tips to Avoid When taking your Sea survival Sertifikasi BNSP

As one of the biggest oil and gas producer in the world (No. 22 with 833,667 barrel per day according to Wikipedia),3 Tips to Avoid When taking your Sea survival Sertifikasi BNSP Articles Indonesia has one of the biggest number of workers in the oil and gas sector. Indonesian Ministry of energy and mineral resources mentioned that in 2013 there were 288.442 number of oil and gas workers all over Indonesia. For the past 5 years, the number increased drastically.

Meanwhile the same data from 2015 cited that the workers at the upstream are at 31.742 workers all over Indonesia. This numbers arise from 2006 data that mention 21.835 people works in the upstream.

Sea survival training is mandatory for oil and gas workers who want to go to the offshore. The training is needed whether they are going to platforms, moving rigs or FPSOs. This requirement is required by all major oil companies, oil and gas operators, and supporting companies in Indonesia.

There are three options for Sea Survival Training in Indonesia: The OPITO certification and Local Certification, and BNSP Certification.

First: The OPITO certification. The certificate is accepted widely, highly valued by the company but the price is relatively high to the Indonesian worker. The pain of the paying the price is suffered especially during the Oil and Gas Industry drop around 2015 and the currency exchange during that time.

Second: The local certification. The certificate is more affordable to the workers, however the acceptance limited.

There are alternatives where the certificate is affordable to the workers but widely accepted. Better yet, these certificates are issued by a state owned body. And that is Sea Survival Sertifikasi BNSP.

There is several LSP (Lembaga Sertifikasi Profesi / Indonesian Profession Certification) who has been certified by BNSP to conduct this training. These LSPs are work on HSEQ, Offshore or Marine/Maritime area. Included one of them there, is LSP Transafe Indonesia.

What is Sertifikasi BNSP / BNSP Certification ?

BNSP certification is a competency certification issued by the state through BNSP. BNSP is an independent institution in the form of government based on Law Number 13 Year 2003 on Manpower. The Agency works to ensure the quality of competence and employment recognition in all sectors of the professional field in Indonesia through the certification process.

BNSP certificate will aid Indonesian Upstream Oil and Gas workers to be more competitive in ASEAN market. They will also have more opportunities in neighboring countries.

However, unlike other course that “Just attend the training and get the certificate”, BNSP Certification have “Competent or Not yet Competent” type. If you pass, you will get a BNSP Certification. If you miss, even it is only one or two points; you will not receive the certificate.

But don’t worries, these LSPs usually have a TUK (Tempat Uji Kompetensi / Authorized Assessment Venue). These TUK often conduct trainings before taking the BNSP test. For Example, LSP Transafe Indonesia has two TUKs. The first one in Jakarta, and the last one is situated in Batam.

So, stop with these background things, what are those 3 Things to avoid when taking Sea survival training with Sertifikasi BNSP Mr. Luki Tantra’s talking about above?

Allright, these things I learned while taking sea survival training with Sertifikasi BNSP at LSP Transafe. My Experience I will share here covers both sides: As participant and as BNSP Assessor.

  1. Inactive on The In class training Session.

Sure, you might be doing this training at your 10th time. You may take the Premium Investment OPITO sea survival before. Or yes, you may have been in Oil and Gas industry for 30-40 years now.

But there must be a slight different here and there. Plus, you might attend the last Sea Survival Class 3-4 years ago, you must have been forgetting some of the information.

Most of these TUK is already use Competence Based Training (CBT) system. So, please focus on the in class training session while some of the details may aid you on the interview / Assessment session later.

  1. Feeling Lazy on the Practical Training Sessions

Again you maybe an expert in oil and gas, or might be doing this training at your 10th time. But Just like the in class session, you must push yourself to follow all the practical session.

Do the water entry, jumping from the platform. Re do the HELP / HUDDLE position. Do the Liferaft uprighting. Complete that hard climb on the scramble net. Jump on the swing rope.

I have seen assessors come to inspect practical sessions and I do ask the trainers if there are people I must concern with, or not following all the practical session with any reason.

  1. Playing Around on Assessments Sessions.

One More time, you might be doing this training at your so many times before. And  yes, you may have been in Oil and Gas industry for decades now.

But these BNSP Assessors are assigned by their respective LSPs. They had the technical certification. Pay respect to them. Sometimes, you might even encounter a young looking assessor.

Keep your attitude. Minimum, they had the sea survival sertifikasi BNSP certification ahead of you. And just like you did earlier in this article, they put their effort on In class and practical session also.

So, respect them, show enough enthusiasm, relax but get enough focus on answering their question.

So, those are 3 Tips to Avoid When taking your Sea survival Sertifikasi BNSP training. I hope you read this and share to your Indonesian friends before they take Sea Survival Sertifikasi BNSP from any LSP, TUKs or other best safety training provider Indonesia.

May they get their certificate of competence so there are more Indonesian workers who acquire Competence Certificates.
