For quality furniture in your home and garden you can't beat cane!

When it comes to choosing furniture for your conservatory you might find it quite daunting.  There are so many different types of furniture to choose from all made from many different materials including steel, plastic, wood or cane.  But when you look at the pros and cons you will realise there really is only one option and that is cane.

You may wonder why cane is the only really option.  Well conservatories are either very hot in the summer or very cool in the winter and also suffer from humidity.  So you need furniture that is durable enough so that it can withstand high humidity levels.  Wood will rot after some time in these types of conditions and steal will rust, but cane is completely water resistant and will look great for many years.

Cane, commonly referred to as wicker or rattan, is made out of a very tough raw material and can be coloured to suit everybody’s tastes.  When thinking of cane you might think of the old tan coloured furniture that you would see in your grandparents home, well get that thought out of your mind as things have changed.  Modern cane furniture is completely different to the old types of cane furniture. You can get cane in a white wash, red pulit, mercury, antique pine, dark brown and even black.  The designs have also evolved.  There are some truly stunning designs that look beautiful in any conservatory or orangey.  Many people have this modern cane furniture in their living rooms as some of the designs are so contemporary.

You may wonder why cane so tough and durable. Well cane comes from the stems of large rattans, which are climbing palms found native to tropical regions of Africa, Asia and Australia. These palms are naturally very tough in its entirety and are used to extreme weather conditions. The palm is harvested and then boiled to very high temperatures which remove the sap from the bark.  The reason they remove the sap is so that it can be flexible for molding into various shapes.  Only when the sap is removed will it be flexible enough for molding.  The next process is where the material is cut into strips which can then be intertwined to make all sorts of furniture and baskets.

Cane is the ideal choice for outdoor or garden furniture because of its strong durability properties.   With the modern designs cane furniture looks truly stunning on patios or around a pool area.  You may well have seen this furniture when you were abroad on holiday.  Also this type of furniture is completely environmentally friendly due to it being made completely naturally without the use any chemicals or wood treatment.

If I haven’t convinced you that cane furniture is the only type of furniture to add to your conservatory or garden I suggest you have a look at the modern designs.  There are many online shops selling cane furniture so you shouldn’t have much trouble finding any.  Some online shops offer different fabric materials for the cushions giving you even more options to fit in with your décor.
