Messenger bags seem to be replacing the brief case as the popular choice of bag for today's business man. Unlike the 1970's and 80's, businessmen are no longer wearing black Brogue shoes,The Growing Popularity of Messenger Bags Articles pinstriped suits from Savile Row and the once ubiquitous bowler hat. These days the majority of businessmen are adopting a more casual appearance; swapping their Brogues for a more stylish shoe and ditching the bowler hat altogether. The briefcase is also loosing popularity in favour of the more casual and ultimately more functional range of men's bags.

Messengers share a number of features which were common place in a briefcase or attaché case. They have small compartments for pens, business cards, calculator & mobile phone and plenty of space for documents too. He differences are that men's messenger bags are that bit more roomy than a briefcase was, allowing room for a lap top computer and the adjustable shoulder strap makes them much more comfortable to carry on your daily commute.

Messenger bags are available in a variety of materials including canvas, vinyl, leather and for the environmentally friendly vegan, a range made from recycled plastic bottles!  Not surprisingly the most popular material is leather as it's combination of robustness, water resistance and timeless looks makes leather messengers one of the best selling choices of bags for men. Messenger bags are also a popular choice amongst professional women too as the image the bag presents is one of organisation, competence and style.

Although the bag are designed to be carried over the shoulder, some designs also feature a carry handle which only adds to this already versatile bag. Originally favoured by the bicycle messengers who delivered documents throughout London, Birmingham and other big cities, the bag gained popularity because they were comfortable to wear whilst cycling and they keep the contents dry in all but the most torrential rain due to the full size leather flap and zipped compartments.

Since messengers grew in popularity many luggage and bag designers have taken it on board to push the boundaries of bag designs; thinking outside the bag, so to speak. With so many styles of ladies and men's bags are available including canvas, suede and leather messenger bags; there's something for everyone. From branded bags for those who like to put their favourite designer brands on display to bags bearing bright and bold designs to more sedate leather messenger bags which wouldn't look out of place next to the briefcases in The City.
