Vacuum trucks are the new revolutionary step being employed by the city of Kirkland to help with floods and backup prevention. The trucks used for this purpose are Kenworth T880 to clear any storm drain debris in the city. These trucks can clear out the drains using Vactor 2100 series sewer before flooding can occur. One of the significant benefits of using this method is that they not only store 1500 gallons of water and 12 square yards worth of debris. Also in addition to that,Vacuum Trucks Assisting Kirkland With Flood-Prevention, City Utility Projects Articles they can pump out up to 80 gallons of water at the speed of 2500 PSI.

This new vacuum excavation method has been deployed in the city for over a year now. This method is used hereafter careful examination of the positive reviews of other communities who have been putting this method to the test, as stated by the fleet manager Archie Ferguson. He also added that because it is the hard-earned money of the taxpayers, the types of equipment that are purchased using that money should offer the best returns on the investments. This initiative also supports a hometown company as they are providing the equipment using this investment.

The company that manufactures these vehicles is the Kenworth company which is based in Kirkland. This company was founded by George T. and Louis Gerliner, Jr. who were brothers and it also has these operations in the pacific northwest since 1912. These models of trucks T880 were introduced in the year 2014. These trucks are so reliable that just in 2 years, i.e. by 2016, these models of trucks amounted to more than 30 per cent of the sales of company Kenworth.

This project covers all corners of the city, i.e. all the 17 square miles but at times, if the need arises, they can be sent outside the cities as well. In case of emergency, they can be sent to the surrounding areas as well. Ferguson has described the working of the trucks as the routine work and in the press release was also seen saying:

“These trucks are out on the roads every day regularly helping in clearing the storm drain but also simultaneously assisting the authorities in many digging projects around the city and in case of any emergency, rushing to the required places. They regularly work throughout the year to continuously prevent the drains and sewers from clogging. These trucks are also helpful in reaching the hard to reach areas and clear any blockage. Any blockage is softened and sucked into the tank regularly. This system also takes care of the underground wires, which reduces the cost of repairs and restorations.

This regular cleaning of the drain is pivotal to maintain the quality of water by avoiding any spillage. The primary functioning of the trucks arises in response to accidents and cleanups like pressure washing, pollutant extraction and water main breaks.

As also stated by Ferguson, the overall cost-effectiveness paired with the local usage of the Kenworth trucks is amazingly rewarding. It is crucial because that way, you can realize their costs via use rather than continuously accumulating costs. These trucks are highly reliable and are a great bonus to the authorities because of their multiple applicability.
