The Goffin Cockatoo

Goffin cockatoos make affectionate, playful and loyal pet parrots when they have owners that are willing to spend the time and effort that they require.

With their cuddly and affectionate nature cockatoos make great pet parrots, however some like the Umbrella or Moluccan cockatoos are just too big. If that's the case for you then you might want to consider the Goffin cockatoo.

They are close to the cockatiel birds in length and slight heavier.

Goffin cockatoos are white with yellow under the tail, wing and ear coverlet feathers. They have pink feathers between the beak and the eyes and under their crests.

They have a smaller crest in proportion to the size of their bodies than the other cockatoos do, but they still raise it when they are excited or frightened.

Don't be fooled into thinking that because they are small that they can't be noisy. Their voices may not be as loud as it is in the larger cockatoos, but they do scream in the morning and early evening.

They are highly active little parrots that need stimulation. They require plenty of attention as well as a good supply of interesting toys to play with.

You will need a larger than normal cage for these active parrots. They need room to play and move around, as well as space for the toys, perches, food and water dishes.

Goffins can talk and some do develop an extensive vocabulary, but in general they are better at learning tricks and solving puzzles.

Their ability to solve puzzles makes it easy for them to figure out how to open a simple cage door. You want a cage that has a latch they can't get at from the inside.

Goffin cockatoos may be smallFree Web Content, but they have a big personality and make excellent pet parrots for the person that is willing to spend enough time with them.
