Using Extra Long Ties

The vast majority of the people who wear ties can wear regular length ties but there is a small percentage of the population who require ties that are long ties or extra long ties.

 Extra long ties are designed for people who are taller than the average person. While some tall men do still choose to wear regular length ties, other men find that extra long ties look more appropriate and make them feel better about wearing the tie. Most men are not even aware of the fact that the tie should reach a certain point on their body in order for it to be considered a correct fit. For example a tall man who chooses to wear a regular length tie might find that the tie only hangs to about this mid stomach. This is way too short on this person as a tie should reach down to the belt buckle. Some people will argue that it must be in to the middle of the belt buckle but most men are not trying to be this precise. Therefore, a very tall man must need to buy extra long ties if they are to reach the belt buckle.

Throughout history there were very few long ties being made and if a person wanted a tie that was longer than a regular length tie they would have to have that long tie custom made. This is not the case anymore. Tie designers are seeing the need for long ties and therefore creating them. Tie designers are now seeing that long ties are not only needed or tall men but also for men who have larger than normal neck sizes. Men who are looking for long ties sometimes don’t know what the difference between a regular length tie and a long tie is. A long tie is normally about two to three inches longer than a regular length tie.

Long ties and extra long ties can also be used by men who are considered average height. Often when wanting to tie a particular knot in the tie the length of the tie will affect the knot that can be used. If you are looking to tie a traditional Windsor knot you might need a tie that is somewhat longer in order to make a good looking knot and to keep the tie to the appropriate length on the body. Also there are men that do not like to have their tie tight on their neck and they may choose to wear a long tie rather than a regular length tie so that they have the option to keep the tie loose on their necks.

If you are looking for a tie that is longer than the length of a long tie then you might want to consider having your ties custom made. This will cost a little more but it will be worth it to have a tie that looks good on you. Often extra long ties can be custom ordered all you need to do is ask when placing the order for your tie.
