But when you seek a fix for something, this implies that something is broken. Nothing, however, is broken. There is a tendency to look outside ourselves for these fixes, instead of looking inwards and thus identify what is really the matter. With fears, we know we are afraid, but rarely seek to truly understand why we are filled with fear.

Without understanding how could we ever overcome our fears? It is in fact usually the case that fears are caused by lack of knowledge and understanding - fear is perceived before we have time to think about why we are feeling as we do. In fact as soon as you feel fear your brain effectively narrows its vision and you simply cannot employ logical thought; the logical thinking part of your brain is effectively bypassed as a result of the fear.

It is therefore important to take a step back from fear and think about it from a distance. Remember, nothing is broken; nothing needs to be fixed. Rather, you need to gain understanding of what is triggering and sustaining the sensation of fear. A little bit of rewiring in your mind is what is required, not simply a sticking plaster which covers everything up.

Hypnosis allows you to take such a step back; it allows you to relax and gain access to your subconscious mind. Its effect can be likened to enabling you to open the cover of a fuse box and thus see which of the individual fuses has tripped. It is then an easy task to reset the fuse. Without hypnosis how would you remove the cover and see what lies underneath? This is why hypnosis is so powerfully effective in fixing fears and phobias.

Hypnosis allows you to see what is really going on; it allows you to understand that nothing is broken or shattered; rather a wire has perhaps come loose or a fuse has tripped, and these are in fact easy to fix.
