Dry spells are a part of the human experience. Yes they can seem frustrating, especially if you feel like there's a lot to get done and you're not motivated to do it. But there is value in dry spells, and by honoring them you can actually make great progress in manifesting, even when it seems like nothing is happening.

Ever have one of those weeks (or months) when your creativity seems to have completely dried up?  When this happens it's a sign from your inner being that it's time to take a break.

Our human minds and bodies are capable of processing millions if not billions of bits of data every day.  And usually we do that quite efficiently,Manifesting Tip: What Dry Spells Teach Us About Manifesting Articles going about our lives without a hitch.  But sometimes, especially when we've been focusing on something for a while, we get information overload and part of our systems shut down.  This isn't a bad thing - it's a protective mechanism that enables us to keep doing the things we need to do to stay alive while the rest of us takes a much needed rest.

Another thing that happens when we hyper-focus is that we tend to get stale after a while.  The same information keeps spinning around in our heads; nothing new is getting in and the old stuff isn't making sense any more.  It's kind of like cramming for an exam. You know it's time to give up when the words blur on the page and you can't add 2+2 to save your life.

The best cure for a dry spell is to take a break.  By "break" I don't mean an afternoon with a friend discussing your dry spell :)  I mean a real, bona-fide break where you get your mind and body completely off of the subject.  It may mean getting lost in a good novel, spending the afternoon watching movies, turning off the computer for a couple days, locking the door to your studio, taking on an assignment at work that has nothing to do with your regular job.  Or it can mean getting out of Dodge...going on a retreat, taking a vacation, doing a job exchange, or something similar to completely change the scenery for a little while.

The important thing is to give yourself some down time where you disengage your mind from your ordinary routine and engage it in something fun and interesting that stimulates you.  Then when you're ready to go back to your project you'll find that the dry spell has all but vanished.
