In the aftermath of a seemingly irrational assault on America by religious extremists, I have spent countless sleepless nights attempting to comprehend the motivations behind such an act. As the initial shock subsided, I arrived at some unsettling conclusions.

The Calculated Nature of Extremism

Contrary to the easy dismissal of these terrorists as deranged,Deciphering the Indecipherable: Understanding the Motives Behind Attacks on America Articles they are not. They are cold, calculating individuals who are fully aware of their actions and their implications. Their objective extends beyond the destruction of America; they are broadcasting their disdain for democracy, individualism, religious freedom, freedom of speech and thought, and capitalism to the world.

The American Dream Under Attack

America, often referred to as the "Great Experiment," was born from the ideas of a few rugged individualists. We abolished the class system and rejected the notion of the individual as a servant to the state. I can express my thoughts freely without fear of retribution. I have the liberty to practice any religion or none at all. The choice is mine, not the state's.

My grandfather, who fled his home at 16 and arrived in this country without even speaking the language, was given the opportunity to start a business in our capitalist society. This business still stands today, managed by my father. These are the principles that Bin Laden and his terrorists were attacking. They were not just targeting the people and property of America, but the hopes and dreams we represent.

The Misrepresentation of Religion

These terrorists are not insane, nor are they truly religious. No genuine Muslim believes in the slaughter of innocents. They are not merely anti-American; they oppose everything America stands for. We were the last stronghold of peace in the world, the last place considered safe by every free-thinking individual on Earth.

This is why people around the world sang "God Bless America" in unison. This is why a woman in France declared that everyone was an American that day. America is more than its physical boundaries and its people. It represents a mindset, the hopes and dreams of countless individuals who have never even set foot on our shores.

The Responsibility of Freedom

With our blessings comes the responsibility to continue the "Great Experiment" and ensure its survival. We are here to stay, and all we ask is "Don't Tread On Me." God Bless America, and God Bless everyone around the globe who stood with us as Americans.
