How YOU can help Haiti! On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, a magnitude-7 earthquake devastated the already poor people and nation of Haiti. It's up to the rest of the world, especially the US, to help out with the recovery efforts. But it comes down to individuals like you and I that can make a huge difference.

On Tuesday,Fundraising Ideas and Charity Ideas For Helping Haiti Articles January 12, 2010, a magnitude-7 earthquake devastated the already poor people and nation of Haiti. It flattened most of the capital Port-Au-Prince which has about 2 million people. Haiti's government can not help its own people people they do not have the money or resources. So it's up to the rest of the world, especially the US, to help out with the recovery efforts. But it comes down to individuals like you and I that can make a huge difference.

Here's how YOU can help:

1) Donate using your phone in less than 5 minutes:

* Text the word "HAITI" to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross for Haiti efforts. You can donate $10 up to three times, and 100% of the donations will reach the Red Cross Foundation. This effort is run by Mobile Accord. Or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

6) Get involved with Local Fundraising ideas in your area

Here are some examples of local fundraising ideas in my community:

On March 27, 2010, a Latin concert was held in Miami to benefit the Haiti relief efforts. The proceeds went to the International Rescue Committee.
Visit Idealocity.com for link to the "Por ti Haiti" concert and the International Rescue Committee.

On April 10, 2010, 1st & Alton of Miami, FL put together an event called Rehabili-Haitian, a sundown-to-midnight extravaganza which raised over $20,000 for Haiti relief efforts. The event consisted of an open bar from 6pm-9pm at Atchana's East West Kitchen in the Mutiny Hotel. The food was donated by Atchana's, Thai Cafe, Tap Tap Restaurant, and Lollyland Bakery. There were drinks, music, silent auctions, general merriment extravaganza! 1st & Alton has brought friends, neighbors, and neighborhoods together through Facebook to raise $10 million in aid for Haiti. They're an incredible grassroots activism success story - 250 volunteers helping 2000 donors bring 24 flights of critical medical, food, and shelter supplies to Port Au Prince. They're local friends, ordinary people doing the extraordinary. You can read more about 1st and Alton event on Facebook.
