Throughout time and memorial, it has been seen that nature certainly overpowers humanity in all finality of things- this is why we are unable to do anything to stop great natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis from happening. This unpredictable and overpowering characteristic of nature has allowed man to view other options. The article below discusses how a boy of eleven decided to help the world against all odds and modern humanitarian efforts that can help rehabilitate the desolate victims of disaster.

A little boy of eleven,Heroes Of Humanity: Tales Of Aid Articles born and raised in the Western British India, an area now known as Gujrat, faced immense trauma when his mother was paralyzed and later suffered from mental illness. From that day onwards, already living a very simple life, he vowed to do something better for the community around him. This strong sense of social responsibility was instilled in him from a very early age when his mother would give him one paisa to eat and another to hand over to a beggar. Living in extreme poverty, this man then single-handedly established his own welfare center after shifting to Karachi after the independence. The initial funds for running his welfare center were five thousand rupees, a mere fifty dollars.

The welfare society is now the largest in Pakistan and has set records around the world. The man and his wife continue to live in very humble straits and continue to provide free humanitarian aid from trauma to cancer to accidents to even education. This inspiring story is the story of Adbul Sattar Edhi and his lifelong quest to help the poor and needy of his country which led him to establish the Edhi Foundation. The figures for this organization are astonishing considering how it started. As of now, the foundation has rescued about 20,000 abandoned infants and trained over 40,000 nurses. This is the kind of spirit and passion that allows people to overcome the most difficult situations and stand tall in the face of disasters and their consequences.

In light of this humanitarian effort that individuals like Edhi or Mother Teresa ceaselessly choose to give to other people, there is always the discussion of more humanitarian effort being done for the victims of natural disasters. While big organizations like the UNHCR mobilize relief effort and work on educating people towards coping with disasters, on a local level this effort is not equally distributed. Whereas this concern is true, it is also true that many local companies manufacture and distribute disaster relief supplies and have efficient operations. The aim of such operations is to effectively manufacture and distribute aid wherever it is needed. But it is not as simple as that; the system is made of a lot of hard work, passion and strength.

The aim of disaster relief supplies is to immediately relieve the affected in terms of food, shelter, medicine, etc. The next step in disaster relief is to rehabilitate the people who have been displaced by the disaster and in a way that they can re-build their lives from scratch. Other issues come into play where this is concerned like how to teach people to cope with the after effects of the disaster and motivate them to start all over while ensuring a feeling of security that has been snatched away. There have been many great and inspiring figures throughout history that have encouraged others to help humanity in similar ways. The human effort should be focused on helping each other build their society back.
