How do you usually get someone's email address? It's most likely that the person told you what it was when you asked them. If you are lucky and you work in the same organization then you should be able to look up the address in your corporate address book. But what happens if none of the above are true? Do you know how to find someone's email address when you have no other way of contacting them? You don't have to register an email address when you create one so it can be difficult and often impossible to find if you don't learn a few tricks for when you need to.

Whenever someone asks me how they can find an email address for someone I send them first to an email tracer web site that I know will give them the best chance of finding the address quickly and easily. The site I use has been collecting emails from many sources for years so there is a good chance that they will have the one you are looking for in their database. This doesn't always work however so I'm going to give you an alternative. It's more work for you and it isn't guaranteed to work but it's worth giving it a shot.

Who doesn't have a Facebook account yet?

Not all email addresses are that easy to find so it's good to know about other ways that can help you to find them. One of my favorite methods is Facebook and I'm going to explain how you can find an email address using this very popular social networking web site.

It seems like everyone has a Facebook account nowadays. All my friends do and most of their parents do too if only so that they can keep an eye on what their children are doing. In fact it's hard to find someone that doesn't have an FB account. This is a good thing because facebook users all have an email address stored away in their account. If you aren't on FB then go and register straight away.

When you have created yourself a Facebook profile you can then click on the "Find Friends" link and type in the name of the person you are interested in into the search box. Clicking 'People' from the menu will show you members who match the name. You may well get a long list of people to choose from depending on how common the name is. Finding the right one can often be easy though because because most people have their photo uploaded.

FB does not display peoples email addresses but it will allow you to send them a private message as long as the recipient has opted to receive messages.

Facebook can be great but it's not foolproof

With a little luck you may be able to find someone's email address using this technique but it's far from foolproof and it does take time. As I said most people seem to be on this social networking site but not everyone is. Also FB users users can opt to not receive messages from you. If they have done this then it will not be nearly as easy to contact them. If you find this to be the case and you can't send your person a message, take a look at the profile of some of their friends. If one of them allows messages then you can ask them to forward your message to the person that you are interested in.

If everything is in your favor then Facebook can be a good way to find someone's email address but you have to do some work to get it and sometimes it will not work at all. It's usually easier to begin your email search by looking it up in a web site specializing in email tracing. It still is one of the best ways of finding an email address.
