A simple and easy way to decorate your deck is make a pattern in the grip tape. If you have a sharp craft knife,Skateboard Decoration: How to Add Flair to Your Boring Skateboard Articles you can easily cut neat shapes into your grip.

Some people like to carve the shape of their home state out of their grip. It's much easier to accomplish with a state that isn't very complex, such as Nevada. Cutting states into your deck is a little more difficult if you live in a place like California.

If you have a deck with a graphic that's on the top layer of veneer, then it's easy to cut around that image through the grip tape. This is easier to do with a simple logo, if your logo isn't square, you're likely to have a difficult time with this idea.

If you don't feel like cutting holes in your grip, you can try decorating it with paint pens. One excellent thing about paint pens is that they're easy to use. They also tend to last much longer than other solutions.

The downside to paint pens is that they're quite expensive. If you aren't interested in cutting shapes into your grip, however, they may be your only option. Although paint pens are expensive, they allow you to do intricate things like lettering more easily.

If you have spray paint, you can make some cool stencils. Stencils are great because they're cheap, easy to make, and look great when they're applied properly. The most important thing to remember while spray painting your deck is to not overdo it.

If you overdo it with the spray paint, then it will leak down into the deck and make it heavier. The paint is also less likely to dry, in turn staining whatever it touches with paint.

On the off chance that you're not feeling crafty, or can't get into spray paint, paint pens, or an x-acto knife, you can decorate your board with some regular felt tip pens. These felt tip pens won't show up very well on the grip tape, but could be used to decorate a blank skateboard deck.

Felt tip pens are likely to rub off, as well. Most skateboard decorations come off after time, but regular markers come off much easier than something a little bit more permanent, like a paint pen or spray paint.

If you've put a lot of effort into your art, you probably want to keep it protected. If you have any kind of lacquer or clear coating, it should do the job nicely. It won't be a permanent protector, but it will work well in the short run.

So now that you know how to decorate your skateboard, you should go out and try it. Again, I recommend that you use permanent solutions, like cutting a hole in your grip tape, or using acrylic paint markers or spray paint to do your art with. These options will keep your skateboard decorated for years to come.
