You hear a lot about choices and flexibility in programming options from the various programming service providers,A Closer Look at Choices and Flexibility in DirecTV Programming Packages and Options Articles but with many of them the details can be somewhat vague. They will have a choice of programming packages and some additional channels that you can add on, but that is about all and they would all like to have you believe that what they have to offer is truly flexible.

What flexibility is supposed to mean is that you will be able to select out what you want to watch and not be forced to pay for programming that you really aren’t interested in. You should also be able to move up in your programming and receiver options with ease while you are committed to an extended programming agreement with out being gouged on the cost.

All of this is what DirecTV now offers its viewers and their high definition programming is as flexible as you can get. DirecTV now carries twenty channels of high definition programming and you can subscribe to the whole package if you choose, or you can subscribe to as few as one high definition channel if that is all that you want. For instance if you are only interested in science and nature programming in high definition then they have Discovery HD Theater that you can select out and ad onto any one of their Total Choice programming packages.

You don’t have to have a standard format programming package though and if you want to, you can subscribe to that one high definition channel only if that is all that you choose. For classic movie programming there is Universal HD and for more recent movie releases there is HDNet Movies in high definition. If you are interested in sports programming in high definition then they have ESPN HD and ESPN2 HD. DirecTV also carries all of the major networks in high definition and this includes FOX, NBC, ABC and CBS and you can any or all of them if you choose.

DirecTV also has your choice of two Hughes name brand high definition receivers for you to select from and both of them receive standard format as well as high definition programming. One is a basic model high definition receiver that is limited in the amount of extra features that it carries and it also doesn’t include the DVR option. The other option in Hughes high definition receivers that DirecTV has for you is a more feature laden model that also comes with DVR.

The DVR in this model will record and store a combined total of one-hundred and twenty-five hours of recordings and all of its functions including the DVR are simple one touch functions that even a child can easily learn to use. With the programming search feature you can quickly find any program that is on the schedule by simply entering it into the function by name or even the name of an actor in the program or movie.

Give the button on the remote a click and it instantly appears on the screen with the date and time it is playing. Give the recording button on the remote a click and it is set to be recorded when it comes on and it’s all just that simple.
