A Digital Camera basically uses the same image capture technology as traditional cameras where a variable diaphragm lens is used to capture the image. The lighting is regulated by the shutter and the diaphragm, but instead of a film roll, the image pickup is done by electronically and so in instantaneous. This is however, only the basic mechanism in any Digital Camera. There are several types of these cameras, and their features and functions vary with each type. As is the case with any front of electronic technology, digital cameras have also undergone a huge change through time and now, most of these cameras are capable of performing a variety of tasks with respect to shooting of pictures, editing, capturing videos and sound and so on. Of the several types of digital cameras, the most common are the compact, personal use cameras. These are highly popular among the market and so a large range of these compact cameras are made available by all leading companies for the people to choose from. These cameras offer users the basic advantage of simply pointing and shooting for a picture. The processors in the cameras can adjust the flash and light settings and they make for very good general and personal use pictures. Most of these models are also capable of capturing video with or without sound and they may also be equipped with additional features such as external ports and cables that can help in viewing the images in television screens and so on. They are generally equipped with memory cards of varying sizes, but in some cases, people may have to buy their memory cards. Another type of the Digital Camera is the Bridge Camera, which is basically an advanced technology camera meant professional looking pictures and videos but simple enough to be operated by individuals without any expertise in photography. As such, they are more bulky but come equipped with an advanced set of features which give the users a very high level of customization for each picture. Also, these cameras can be fitted with special extra zoom lenses that can make for extremely close range and detailed pictures with great clarity and color.  Another type of Digital Camera is the single lens reflex camera. These are generally used by professional photographers as they offer the user the highest level of options and customization in all the technical aspects of the camera, including the level of light. They work through the use of a mirror which keeps the light from the lens reflected till the time shot is taken.
