Through its official app, Flickr now offers Samsung Gear VR support for all the 360° photos. This is a great step towards familiarizing the masses to the upcoming VR revolution, since having a long list of 360° pictures gives an excellent excuse for many people to actually acquire a new headset, even if it’s just only  Samsung Gear VR.

Even so, taking a deeper look in the consequences of a choice like that, it’s not a surprise that Flickr decided to make a change like that. Many media experts believe that virtual reality is an upcoming technological breakthrough in the likes of how smartphones were before. Even so, for popular websites like Flickr to take a decision like that, it means that we might have already passed to the Virtual Reality Era, and that the Rift and Vive will just mark the passage to the next step.

Through the official blog of the site, we learn that ‘when you first open the Flickr app on Samsung Gear VR, you’ll see a carousel of the top curated 360° photos from Flickr.’ As you can see in the image above, it seems like a great way at showcasing the best works from people all around the world, while at the same time greatly taking advantage of the mobility of the Gear VR.

Furthermore, by just choosing one of those pictures, you can explore the scene in an immersive, virtual reality environment. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to get a Gear VR in my hands and try one of those pictures. Nevertheless, without a clear announcement, but only a hidden implication to the end of the blog post, we might be looking at Google Cardboard support soon. As for the other headsets, we just have to wait and see.
