Although most people agree that it is very beneficial to have a handheld vacuum as a supplement to the main canister unit,Handheld Vacuums: The Future of Vacuum Cleaning Articles few would accept the idea that a handheld vacuum can completely replace the functions of a large device. In fact, future handheld units can render the traditional caniter vacuum obsolete. Here, I discuss some major issues that have so far prevented us to put away the large corded vacuums and how the new technologies are solving these issues.

Suction power used to be a major drawback on handheld vacuums that forced many to keep a large canister unit at home. There was a time when we thought small, highly portable vacuum cleaners could never catch up with the power of the colossal units. With the improvements in design and efficiency, our lack of confidence in handheld vacuum  cleaners is fast becoming a thing of the past. Today, provided that you get the best handheld vacuum, you can enjoy a suction power that can easily match that of a medium-sized canister.

Cordless operation is one of the top reasons for buying a handheld vacuum. Everyone who got his fair share of vacuum cleaning in life would agree that the cord is the ultimate annoyance when you are cleaning your floor. Although, corded hand vacuums are also available and popular with customers, the true comfort of owning a handheld unit is to do with freedom from the cord. A rechargable battery allows you to quickly finish those parts where frequently changing the socket would be serious problem such as staircase. Also, you can take a cordless unit to places where a socket is not available like your car. However, all that requires you to find a product with a tough battery.

Development of newer, better and more powerful batteries is the number one factor behind the recent rise of handheld units. Batteries of the old days caused heartache in two ways. First, they would run out charge within minutes, often failing to provide enough juice after the first minute. This would turn even the quickest cleanup into a hassle. Next, the battery used to die completely after a few years, forcing you to replace the entire vacuum cleaner. The advent of lithium ion batteries solved these issues by allowing for longer battery life, short recharge times and unwavering battery power. To enjoy the benefits of advanced batteries, you should do careful research before purchasing a vacuum.

Low bin capacity is another weakness of handheld vacuums and the developments in vacuum industry is overcoming this issue in a different way. It is now much easier to empty the bins and a large bin is becoming a redundancy if not a burden. It does not take a lot of imagination to foresee that very soon, emptying the bin will cease to be a problem.
