If there is one thing you can say about the way the country is right now it is that people are worried not only about their jobs or kids or cars or money, but also their homes and keeping them safe while keeping costs down; it is a tough balancing act.

It's tougher still when you think that most of the major home protections services require not only monthly fees,Home Security, Cost Pose Problems For Homeowners Articles but, if too many false alarms are sounded from your home - as in you weren't quite quick enough to get your PIN entered into the master arm device - then not only do you have to pay ADT for its monitoring services but you may have to also pay your town for the "false alarms."

That's the Skylink SC-1000 Complete Wireless Alarm System, White, made by Skylink, offers an alternative you can live with. It is a wireless system that offers not only motion sensors but also window and door detectors, a wireless warning keychain warning device and autodialer with up to nine numbers that can be called to indicate something is wrong. In addition, you can also record a 40-second message that listeners will hear so that they will know something is wrong at your home.

The key to this technology is something Skylink calls "rolling number" technology. In other radio services, it is called computer-synchronized "spread-spectrum" technology that is actually very simply in concept but almost impossible to intercept. The simplicity is this, your major devices, the motion detector or the master pin unit (the Skylink includes on of those keypad-style wall units as well so you do have to be quick about disarming and reaming it) or one of the motion detectors all operate on the same frequency band. The interesting things is that as they operate they roll through a number of digital codes that are known only to the devices involved at any given moment and they move quickly to another set of numbers on a slightly different frequency in the same band as they work.

Since the amount of transmitting energy is so small at a given spot, at a given time and since it is just above what is known as the noise floor, it sounds to anyone who might be listening as static. To the Skylink, though, it actually makes sense and if one of the sensors some unauthorized person is trying to open it, the sensor contacts the main unit which then begins the dial out process. You can have it dial to whomever you want or trust or even the police, if you would like, provided you have their permission and you'll likely have to sign the same kinds of paperwork that ADT-users sign regarding falses, but, if you decide not to do so, you do save that amount of money.

One key feature that you will notice - and so will your neighbors as well as the bad guys is, if you leave it hooked up, a 110db siren that will sound to indicate there's a problem with your home. You can turn that feature off and rely on the dialer as most people do.

Does it work? From what we've seen is that the two window and door sensors, plus the keypad on the wall are enough to keep a casual looker who may be thinking of doing something wrong from committing that act. If not, you have your phone working overtime telling people that something is happening at your home.

Best of all, if you use the direct approach and rely on a friend or someone you trust in your family, you can save a fortune in bills to ADT and the police department and still have protection for your home.
