Laboratories, research centers and school labs require many equipments and instruments to research and testing. Furnace is one of them and used is many applications. This is almost unavoidable in many laboratory procedures. As furnace is intended for continuous high temperature use therefore it is typically made from high-temperature refractory materials.

Not every testing has same procedure. Depends upon the kind and purpose every testing procedure requires different type of furnaces. These furnaces come in variety of sizes and with different temperature limits. There are lots of furnace models available on the market. You can find furnaces come in a wide array of configurations that include tube furnace, muffle furnace, top loading furnace and bottom loading furnace. Let’s take a glance of different types of furnaces that are used in various laboratories.

Tube Furnace: Tube furnaces are widely used in many laboratories for producing non-stop heating for various activities such as growing crystals, firing ceramics, transportation of chemical vapor, radiation studies and superconductor researches. The tube furnaces are ideal for annealing, sintering, melting, and temperature sensor testing procedures.  

We can further classify tube furnaces in two types spit tube furnace and whole tube furnace. These tube furnaces are run with the help of electricity or gas.

Muffle Furnace: For various ignition tests, determination of suspended and volatile solids, perform gravimetric, muffle furnaces are used. They are ideal for the processes such as incinerating organic and inorganic materials, extracting zinc, enamel job, cement testing, material testing, purifying of metals like silver and gold. These muffle furnaces are also run by electricity and gas.

Vacuum Furnaces: The other type of furnace is vacuum furnace. This vacuum furnace especially used to test specimens in vacuum atmosphere.
