This is a camera that promises to give you professional-quality results in both stills and video, but without the high price tag and large, heavy device that other models offer.

As you can imagine, most of the reviews about this camera talk about great image quality, but those same comments can be made about many different cameras on the market today. Clearly, you will have to dig a little deeper to uncover the true experience that comes with owning this model of Nikon.

Great for All Lighting Situations

One of the reasons why so many Nikon D3100 reviews talk about excellent image quality is because the camera is designed to work well in all lighting situations. It handles beautifully in low-light situations, which is where many other cameras really struggle. You only have to think about all of those missed shots that you've lost over the years because the lighting has been poor, such as on camping trips outdoors at night, when your kids blew out the candles on their cakes, at parties and restaurants with friends and family, and other such situations. This camera ensures you won't miss another shot again because of lighting.

Not Quite Professional

Many of the Nikon D3100 reviews are overwhelmingly positive in large part because it's difficult to take a bad shot with this camera. Yet the truth is that this camera is not quite professional. One reason for this is because most professional cameras come with the baggage of a large design and a heavy weight, not to mention an expensive price tag to boot. This model weighs less than a pound and has a size that fits easily in the palm of most people. It has tons of features like a professional camera does, but those features are largely pretty easy to access, so you won't be fiddling around and trying to make adjustments for lighting, motion, and so forth.

One Downside

There really is not a perfect camera out there, and by reading between the lines with Nikon D3100 reviews, you will likely discover that this camera suffers from what is commonly known as Jell-O effect. This is the effect of movement on the camcorder feature due to a shaky hand. The camera does have image stabilization for capturing moving options, but it generally performs better with video shots when placed on a tripod.
