Benissa and a medieval adventure on your Costa Blanca Holidays

This year when you’re on your COSTA BLANCA HOLIDAYS take a little time and visit the unique village of Benissa. This seaside resort is the oldest town on this part of the coast and celebrates with a medieval fair. If you fancy dressing up like a countess or a knight, be in Benissa when the play host to their medieval celebration. Not only is there a medieval market and people dressed in period costumes that are some pretending to sword fight.

While on your COSTA BLANCA HOLIDAYS venture over to the little seaside resorts of Benissa, located in the Alicante province. With its narrow streets and Mediterranean style houses from the 17th and 18th century you would think it was from the time of the Moors. You will become even more convinced of its age when you investigate its authentic churches and Town Hall. Due to its historical importance the town was not only restored in the 1980s and 1990s it fell under the protection of the Spanish government. This restoration and protection will preserve the village for generation to come.

The village is situated in a lush green valley fronted by the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean and is only separated by vast white sandy beaches. When you add the excellent climate and the laid back atmosphere of Benissa you will begin to understand why people from all over the world come here to live, so much so that it looks like a little Europe. Some of them came here on holiday and never went home so be careful. This is where you can spend a day in paradise that could last a lifetime.

Benissa is easy to access by either car or airplane with Alicante’s international airport only just down the road. For a day out along the coast road are the towns of Moraira and Calpe or Alicante and Valencia. Having said this it’s hard to get away from Benissa's four kilometres of coastline besides being one of the oldest towns in the area.

If you do visit Benissa, upon reaching the town take a slow stroll through its old town if for no other reason to soak up the happiness this place exudes. While you are here inspect some of the villages numerous historical monuments. For starters there is the Portal Square, the church in a neo gothic style built in the 19th century, an 18th century hospital, the Cathedral of the Pure Mother Maria and the symbol of the town, its University. These are some of the more important places that you should put on your list of monuments to see.
